Angelo fires up the 550
horsepower diesel and lowers Robo's head to the ground, so pilot Mark Hays
can enter the monster's head where all the controls are located.
Mike talks with Angelo on
the two way radio head set to let Angelo know when the head is close to
the ground.
Robo pilot, Mark Hays,
relaxes on Robo's claw while waiting for Angelo, Mike and John to make
their final pre show checks.
Mark enters the head.
Today. Mark is letting Air
Force 1st Lieutenant Tammy Haley (our base liaison officer) ride in the jump
seat behind the pilot during the show.
After Mark and Tammy are
inside the monster's cranium, Doug Malewicki gets on a ladder to take a
couple of point-of-view shots.
Mark Hays and Air Force 1st
Lieutenant Tammy Haley are strapped in and ready to get going.
Mark starts the check out
sequence and fire master switch arming.
Almost SHOW TIME! Note that one axle of the rear wheel set is off the ground. The
entire rear end is on a 4' diameter gun turret bearing. Lifting and
locking one axle off the ground converts the rear end into a free
swiveling castor wheel system.
After closing and locking
the hatch, Mark starts to slowly do a U-turn to aim Robo
towards the flight line.
Not how
rear wheel set has swiveled 90 degrees during the turn.
Once Mark has the robot
standing upright he gives out a couple of bursts of fire from Robosaurus's
nostrils!
Robosaurus also has a built
in 10,000 watt sound system that makes very loud "monster" sounds.
There are 50 separate digitally stored sound files that can be played on
command.
The crowds love the special effects
sounds and the awesome fire!
