DELTA Engineering Consulting
History
The DELTA Submarine is
totally Doug Privitt's invention, not one of Doug Malewicki's inventions. Malewicki got
involved with Privitt's cool project after the two first met out at EL Mirage Dry Lake
where motorcycle road racer Ken Ward of Chicago was learning how to "jump"
Malewicki's KiteCycle invention. Privitt and a few friends were out racing around with
their dirt bikes. They came by, asked if it was OK to hang around and watch, then ended up
helping us out. It turned out Privitt had a machine shop within a couple of miles of
Malewicki's place, so a few days later they got together to look at each others photos of
the El Mirage KiteCycle jumps.
The name of Privitt's shop was MARFAB, which was short for Marine Fabrication. Privett had built and was building all kinds of contraptions. He previously built three submersibles capable of 1,000 foot deep dives (the NEKTON series - Alpha, Beta and Gamma which were in use by General Oceanographics of San Diego, California). Once Privitt found out Malewicki was a "real" engineer with a Master's Degree from Stanford, he enlisted him for some heavy duty math work.
